BluRay Popup Menu

Posted on 7/5/2009 2:13:00 PM

A new feature called Popup menu is introduced to BluRay movie playback. Encore CS4 supported such feature.

I noticed in BluRay menu navigation structure and BluRay player/remote control, there isn't a Root Menu / Title Menu as in DVD. There is only Top Menu, and Popup Menu. After messing around in Encore CS4 which supports Popup Menu, I'm able to add that to my client's Bluray output.

What you are seeing is the screen after the popup menu button is pressed on the remote control. The video in the background continues to play while viewers can navigate to other chapters or submenu. It's pretty cool.

If you are working on CS4, I'm sharing this PSD file. You can import to CS4 when authoring BluRay. Encore handle popup menu a little different. Everything in the background will become transparent. So if you want to have graphics other than the buttons, you will have to add them in the button layers.

Posted by Jose on 5/26/2010 3:18:00 AM i was wondering how did u do the background for the popup menu for the bluray.. cause every background i did just dissapear, and if i wrote on the layer (+), encore see it as a button and can put more buttons on it.. hope u can help me out, thx in advance!

Replied by LA Color Shop Jose, the BluRay popup menu supposed to display overlay on top of the current video. In other word, the popup menu displays all the buttons ONLY while the movie is still playing in the background. Therefore, all the background you use will become transparent. For whatever you want to display in the popup menu, they have to be in the form of a button.

If you want the entire background to be displayed, the background image will need to be "sliced" into part of each button. It's very painful to create. That also defect the purpose of popup menu.
Posted by Jose on 5/26/2010 12:47:00 PM i want just a small background, so the text doesnt look so simple, i just want like a box where i can put the buttons in.. is it too difficult to make that?

Replied by LA Color Shop Again, only image elements that are part of the button can be displayed. All other layers will become transparent. If you want to have a box around the button, move that box layer to the button folder in Photoshop.
